About 85 years ago, our ancestors assembled together with the motive of spreading religious consciousness, social progress and good-will of the general masses and formed "The Nepali Tamang Buddhist Association", Darjeeling, by constructing "Tashi Dargayling Monastery", popularly known as "Tamang Gumba" to offer religious services to the Nepali community Buddhist and others in the year 1926. Since then, the Monastery Commemorates Guru Rimporche's Puja and Buddha Jayanti every year in a majestic way.

In 1983, the responsibility of the Secretaryship has been offered to upon Shrimati Laghu Dolma Moktan, and Shrimati Narsang Tamang was bestowed the Presidentship. In 1985, His Holiness, The Dalai Lama's organised "Kal Chakra" (a holy sermon) in Budh Gaya, Bihar where millions of the devotees were present and among them Shrimati Laghu Dolma Moktan also got opportunity to be a part of it. She saw that every sect of Buddhism has a monastery in Bodh Gaya, the place where Lord Buddha was enlightened with the knowledge but hardly saw any monastery that belonged to Ningmapa Sect (Tamang Buddhist community belongs to Ningmapa Sect) and shared her vision of erecting a "Nepali Tamang Monastery and Dharmsala" for providing the better facilities to the devotees who went to Bodh Gaya from the hills for religious purpose with the then Committee members who officially approved this proposal and gave the entire responsibility to find out the feasibility of the project.
For this purpose, she approached the District administration of Bihar but could not reach a satisfactory conclusion, therefore, the idea was dropped and fortunately she initiated this project on a private land near the 6 Maha Bodhi Temple where Monastery's and Dharmsala's of Thailand, Burma and other countries already existed. Shrimati L. D. Moktan had done a lot of hard work with sincerity and collected donations from her relatives and thousand of devotees and believers of the Buddhist philosophy from Darjeeling, Dooars, Sikkim, Bhutan, and Nepal. On 25th February, 1988 this dream turned into reality. That was the day to lay the foundation of the monastery and on this auspicious occasion, Holy Rimporche Beru Khemchey, Bokar Rimporche along with the Monk of the Monastery's including the Head Monk of Thailand and Burmese Monastery and other distinguished guests were present and blessed the project to erect a Monastery with Dharmasala (lodge for staying purpose) and named the monastery "Duidal Jhangchub Choling Monastery".
Earlier, in the year 1988-89, the Dharmsala was ascertained with 10 rooms while today it has 52 well- furnished rooms. However, the acknowledgement of such a magnificent task goes to Shrimati Laghu Dolma Moktan; her husband Shri Durga Singh Bomzon and her family members, as well as the then Committee Members and specially to the donars. The Nepali fraternity feels proud of their contribution in this field; honor and pray for a peaceful and healthy life to her as well as her revered family and the donars.
Today thousand of Buddhist pilgrims and devotees from throughout the world stay in this Dharmasala and offer prayers in the Maha Bodhi Temple. |
